Science Behind the Study
Why are we using cannabis to treat PTSD?
Cannabis has been used for medical reasons in and outside of the U.S. It is most often used to treat people suffering from insomnia, anxiety, and pain. People with PTSD can have similar symptoms and some report that use of cannabis helps reduce these symptoms.
So far though, there have been no scientific studies looking at cannabis as a way of helping people with PTSD. This rigorous, controlled research is being done to find out if cannabis will reduce nightmares, anxiety, and sleep difficulties in people with PTSD.
HOW This Research COULD HELP WITH PTSD and what we can accomplish together
Tackling a worldwide health problem
PTSD is a worldwide public health problem with the rate of incidence among veterans as high as 18%. Testing and proving the efficacy of cannabis in treating PTSD could be the breakthrough that’s needed to improve care and bring relief to so many that desperately need it.
Improving standards of care for PTSD
The effects of cannabis may provide an immediate relief for the harsh symptoms of PTSD, which in turn may allow patients to have positive results from other PTSD treatments, improving the overall standard of care.
